Teaching Opportunities

River Rats is looking for qualified sailing instructors for its upcoming summer training sessions.

Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes are held for children who are 8 to 16 years old. The program provides two sessions; each with Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced classes. Included in the junior sailors instruction is participation in the four day “Sweeps” held on the Shrewsbury and Navesink Rivers. 

The ideal candidate is a graduating high school senior or college student who has a solid sailing and racing background. Requirements include: 

Boat Safety Certificate for operating a power boat on tidal waters 
US Sailing Instructor Level 1 Course Certification 
First Aid/CPR certificate 

General responsibilities as an instructor are to teach sailing skills in a safe and fun way while being an appropriate role model at all times. An instructor works closely with the other instructors with day to day activities while demonstrating seamanship skills and displaying teamwork. Hours are Monday – Friday 8:30-4:15.
