About River Rats

River Rats, Inc. is an education focused 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to sailing. EIN: 22-6064836.

In addition to our training programs, River Rats offers social events and racing series for its members, as well as the opportunity to join invitational regattas with other sailing clubs.

River Rats is a member of US Sailing and the North Jersey Yacht Racing Association.

The 3 primary goals of River Rats are:

1. To promote aquatic activities among children and their families
2. To provide training that stresses safety
3. To provide facilities for accomplishing these goals

Our name was inspired by the story The River Bank in the children's book Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, where we hear a discussion about boats:

"Is it so nice as all that?" asked the Mole shyly.

"Nice? It's the only thing," said the Water Rat solemnly, as he leant forward for his stroke. "Believe me, my friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."

All persons regardless of race, creed, sex, gender identity or national origin are eligible for membership.
