The Spring Training sailing course for adults consists of three classroom sessions and three on-the-water sessions. The classroom sessions cover basic sailing theory and nomenclature, including: parts of a sailboat, rigging, how to make a sailboat sail, and basic knots. The on-the-water sessions provide hands-on experience under the guidance of an instructor and include rigging and unrigging, trimming sails, the different points of sail, time at the helm, and approaching a mooring and a dock.
All on-the-water sessions are held at the River Rats Facilities at the end of Battin Road. Thursday classroom session will be held at the Fair Haven Youth Center.
